Interview: Make Model

How did your Friday night set go?
We did a gig in London on Tuesday, but this one at Dingwalls last night was way better. We’ve only got to the point now where coming to London isn’t as scary as it used to be. When you’re a new band, all the London gigs consist of press and management that you have to impress, so it’s never as good as it is anywhere else. We now feel like we’ve become ourselves in London. Last night was one of the best gigs we’ve ever done.
Have you played Camden venues before?
We’ve played Barfly a couple of times. We’ve played Koko before, and I always feel really lucky that we get to play somewhere like that.
What are your favourite Camden memories?
I came to see Tortoise at Koko when I was younger, I think to be honest that’s my favourite Camden memory as they’re a band I really love. My first time in Camden… walking up that high street. It’s quite cool - I was walking round the other day actually, and remembering those days. It’s like an extended version of all those bits of cities, you know? Everywhere’s got a bit like Camden, but in Camden it’s all there. I used to look up the canal, and think that looks really cool, and now we’re here!
Who are you planning on seeing while you’re here?
I tend to be really bad when I go to festivals for seeing other bands. At SXSW I saw no-one! I feel really bad about it! Everyone I wanted to see last night was on the same time as us. I hope to see Crystal Castles. I’m going to use this as an excuse to find out about new stuff - I’m going to try and be surprised.

the canal is cool. it’s about the only area of camden that manages to look vaguely nice.
