An artist transcending the confines of British urban music, a one-man industry, musical polymath and one of the most exciting artistic talents in the UK. Produced by long-time collaborator Reza Safinia, his new single XXL channels influences ranging from Tricky through to Public Enemy to The Prodigy, boasting a thumping old school break, euphoric rave samples and unrelenting propeller beats. To date Akala has released two albums, “It’s Not a Rumour” and “Freedom Lasso”, both receiving critical acclaim, earning him the ‘Best Hip Hop Artist’ award at the 2006 MOBO Awards. Akala’s appeal is far wider than his UK counterparts, alongside renowned drummer Cassell “The Beatmaker” they produce stellar live performances to audiences across the UK and Europe, as well as making appearances at Glastonbury, V Festival and SXSW. Currently collaborating with British classical composer Paul Gladstone-Reid MBE, Akala represents the multi-musical, multi-racial, multi-talented young Britain bursting to be heard.
