Founded in late 2009, School Is Cool are a sextet from Belgium comprised of singer and guitarist Johannes Genard, drummers Matthias Dillen and Andrew Van Ostade, bassist Toon Van Baelen, and violist Nele Paelinck. Known for their intense live performances, the band combine complex baroque arrangements and choruses, energetic drums, eighties synths and apocalyptic lyrics to produce their own very unique sound. They cite influences of Pixies, the Dodos, Menomena, Kate Bush and Bruce Springsteen in equal measure with 18th century orchestral music and tribal, ethnic percussion. Their debut 16- track album ‘Entropology’, released in 2011, was produced by Das Pop’s Reinhard Vanbergen introduced the band to the International stage. The last two years saw the band touring across the continent and playing at showcase festivals like Eurosonic, The Great Escape and Popkomm. They are currently working on their self-produced second album, planned for release later this year.
