Dam Mantle is the dazzlingly-monikered Glasgow-based producer and performer who has garnered a lot of hype about his work recently. Tom Marshallsay blends a nomadic sense of rhythm with a kaleidoscopic sound-pallete of synths and samples, making his music hard to pin down and adequately describe. Starting off 2010 with a bang, his debut 12″ – the Grey EP on local Glaswegian label Halleluwah Hits was released in March and was met with universal acclaim and sold out within a month. His second EP, Purple Arrow was released in September 2010 via Dam Mantle’s own label, Growing records. Dam Mantle made its live debut supporting Gold Panda in the Spring of 2010, across the UK and since then has shared the stage with the best electronic talent around, playing through the summer with, amongst others, Plaid, Dimlite, Four Tet, Scientist and Toro Y Moi, as well as appearing at various European events and festivals in London, Glasgow Amsterdam, Poland, Switzerland, France, Czech Republic, Glasgow and Germany. Early 2011 saw him venture into North America for the first time with his first US release, the First Wave EP collection, as well as a debut American tour this spring in support of Gold Panda that included a stop at SXSW in Texas in March. Now finished with his university commitments, Dam Mantle will be busy releasing new recordings, starting with the brilliant ‘We’ EP in July 2011 and playing live for the forseeable future, with an album set for 2012.
