Founded by MOBO award-winning artist Akala, the Hip-hop Shakespeare Company (‘THSC’) is a music theatre production company aimed at exploring the social, cultural and linguistic parallels between the works of William Shakespeare and that of modern day rappers. Launched with the support of British actor Sir Ian McKellen, THSC delivers bespoke education programmes and interactive live music events showcasing the work of aspiring young talent who share the stage with established artists. Previous collaborators include: Ed Sheeran, Ashley ‘Bashy’ Thomas, Ms. Dynamite, TY, Zena Edwards and Kate Tempest. ‘Hip Hop Shakespeare Live’ at the Camden Crawl 2012 will involve a series of performances featuring special guest artists who will be joined onstage by the renowned THSC artist associates, live band and young aspiring talent all performing a medley of songs inspired by scenes and quotes from famous Shakespeare plays and sonnets.
