THE CRAWL Q&A: MARMOZETS | News | The Camden Crawl 2012

We were intending to open this piece with one of those ‘if Arctic Monkeys met Queens of the Stone Age’ analogy thingies, but realised that actually happened a few years ago and Marmozets had nothing to do with it. One of the bright lights of West Yorkshire’s music scene, Marmozets in truth defy any kind of cheap comparison: jagged post-punk guitars compete with rumbling bass and Becca Mac’s elastic vocals – one moment metal shriek, the next poppish croon – to produce something properly exciting. We donned our flat cap and tried to keep up with them.

What happened the last time you were in Camden?

We played at KOKO with Don Broco, A Loss For Words and Four Year Strong, which was awesome.

What is the one single most important thing to know about the band?

If you’re going to get close to the front, make sure you don’t get hit by a guitar.

You can have one artist, living or dead, on stage with you: who is it and why?

Steve Albini. He’s cool as fuck.

Recommend us a tune by a band other than you that we should download right now.

Refused – The Deadly Rhythm. or, (once the new album arrives) These Monsters. Their bass player, Ian, is our Van Driver / Tour manager. He played us the new tracks on tour recently and they’re HUGE!

What is the most outlandish item on your rider?

Our riders vary, we had like a picnic vibe going on recently. We had to supply our own blanket though.

If each member of the band had to appear in fancy dress on stage, who would wear what?

We’d all wear balaclavas. Will and Josh wore one each at a recent gig and they looked like lost members from the band The Locust.

Anything specific you want to plug?

Our new EP ‘Vexed’ is out now on iTunes/Amazon/Play for £2.49
