L.A. is the project of Mallorcan bard Luis Albert Segura, and the songs from his latest EP, SLNT FLM, sound like postcards sent direct from the Mediterranean. Not that it sounds like that twee tourist band that serenaded you at breakfast that one time with the same tune played over 20 minutes: L.A.’s smokey pop simply has the sun in its smart harmonies.
Take the Matt Wignall-directed video to L.A.’s single, ‘Over and Over’: it’s all classic cars driven along idyllic roads, with a catchy melody providing the soundtrack. If you wants summer, here’s your summer. It’s a shift from the pop rock of L.A.’s previous efforts, but it’s one he’s obviously pretty comfortable with. And the Crawl kick-starts our summer every year.
What is your first memory or experience of Camden Town?
I went to Camden with my family in 1994… It was great!
In what one other city would you put on a festival like the Camden Crawl and why?
In Palma de Mallorca, where we live. There are a lot of bands, tourists in summer, very crowded, we definitely need something like this in Spain! And if its in Mallorca all the better …
If the band were to appear live on any US television series, which would it be?
Mmmm… I don’t know so much about US television series, but maybe it would be funny to be in Entourage.
What one instrument that isn’t part of your line-up do you secretly wish was?
Hahaha, without any doubt a marimba!
Describe your sound in 10 words or less:
Earthy vintage alt rock with a new taste
What is the most interesting event the band has planned for 2012?
Apart from Camden Crawl? We are planning to play at Reading and Leeds Festival at the end of August
Tipple of choice?
Jack Daniel’s with 7up
Anything specific you want to plug?
We’re dying to play at the Camden Crawl!!
L.A. will be appearing at CC2012 on Sunday 6th May. Check out their profile page for more information
